For Whom the Bell Tolls

"For whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee" is the final sentence in John Doone's poem, "No Man is an Island."

These words bring challenge to my life and I pray will bring challenge to yours.

Will I live for Jesus?
Will I deny myself?
Will I read and obey scripture?
Will I pray more adamantly?
Will I win souls?
Will I be sacrificial and generous with my resources?

The bell is ringing for me! What will I do?

You Are Called

They are many important callings in life. However, the most important calling is to win souls. This is true for several reasons.

  • The issue is heaven and hell. If you fail to say yes to this calling there will be people who will die without Christ and spend eternity in a Devil's hell. If you respond in the affirmative you will have the joy of partnering with Christ to see people spend eternity in heaven.
  • The issue is life and death. People who do not know Christ as their Savior are dead in their trespasses and sins. They know not the joy of following our Savior day by day. They have not the certainty of eternal life. When you say yes you make a difference in their daily life.
  • The issue is obedience to Christ. Jesus said, "If you love me keep my commandments." He commanded us to win souls. Are you willing to be obedient or will you choose your own way in life. The obedient life is a life that is invested in winning souls.
  • The issue is do you really care about people who do not know Christ? Most Christians live such a lukewarm existence that they do not care about those around them. They are so busy with their own life that they forget that all around are those that know not Christ. They are indifferent to the needs that are evident before them. They simply do not care.

Will you embrace your calling? Let's go win souls!

When Things Change

It has been a while since my last post. My apologies. I will attempt to do a better job of keeping up in the days ahead.

It seems to me that change is transpiring all around us at an unprecedented rate. Socially, Politically, financially and even in the spiritual community we see dramatic evidence of change. Change of itself is not a bad thing, however, most of us resist change. We drive the same path to work, we visit the same restaurants and we meet with the same people. When something changes the norm we often find ourselves upset.

What should we do when things change? We should recognize that change is inevitable. Our attitude needs to become, not will things change , but when will things change? It does not take a seer to realize the significant changes we are currently experiencing. Do not run from change. Do not run from change, embrace it.

We should put our trust in our Savior as we deal with change. God not only knows what is best for us, He is able to accomplish what is best for us. As you deal with change in your life look to Him for guidance and direction. Trust in His power and wisdom. He will do good things in your life as you walk through change.

Face change and realize that some things cannot change. In my life, methodology and delivery may look much different today than they did 35 years ago. However, the message I proclaim is the same yesterday, today and forever. The truths of scripture are not up for change. They are unchangeable.
