Praying for America

Governor Rick Perry of Texas has issued a call for day of prayer, August 6, 2011. The purpose of this day of prayer is to “seek God’s guidance and wisdom in addressing the challenges that face our communities, states and nation."

As you would expect this has brought an outcry of indignation from the liberal left. Wild accusations and liberal pontifications of violation of church and state were immediate. It would seem that the failed solutions of the past years are preferred to the potential intervention of the God and the faith in Him that our nation was founded upon.

I for one am weary of the empty diatribe of the liberal voices in America. In the name of political correctness the a-theist, a-religionist and the a-moral have intimidated Americans for far too long. I agree with Governor Perry that America desperately needs the intervention of God in our national and international affairs.

While I totally agree with the principle that those who oppose the day of prayer have the privilege to do so, I am just as committed to the principle that those who wish to gather and pray have the privilege to do so. My advice to those who oppose this day of prayer is that they not attend and that they (should they choose) not pray. They will not be the first people who foolishly thought themselves to be wiser than God and ignored His gracious offer of prayer that leads to wisdom and provision.
